MobileX Coverage

MobileX is a prepaid cell phone carrier that was started in 2021 by Peter Adderton.

Peter Adderton is the former founder and CEO of Boost Mobile.

MobileX is a type of cell phone carrier known as a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO. An MVNO is any cell phone carrier that does not own its own network infrastructure. Instead, MVNOs, such as MobileX, purchase access to existing cellular networks from bigger carriers.

In the case of MobileX, it has an agreement with Verizon.

MobileX uses Verizon’s 4G LTE and 5G networks to provide coverage.

By using Verizon’s existing network, MobileX is able to offer affordable plans without compromising on the quality of service.

You can check MobileX coverage in your area by searching for your location on the interactive coverage maps at the top of this page. Y

MobileX offers extensive 4G LTE and 4G coverage across the country.

MobileX 5G Coverage

MobileX 5G coverage map

MobileX uses Verizon 5G Nationwide and 5G Ultra Wideband networks to provide 5G services across the United States.

MobileX covers about 230 million people on Verizon’s 5G Nationwide network, or roughly 69% of the U.S. population.

About 222 million people, or 60% of the U.S population, are covered by MobileX on Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network. Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband is substantially faster than 5G Nationwide, boasting speeds up to 4 Gbps.

MobileX LTE Coverage

MobileX LTE coverage map

MobileX provides robust nationwide LTE coverage on Verizon’s advanced LTE network.

Verizon LTE covers a remarkable 98% of the U.S. population, so you are likely to get coverage in most places.

MobileX vs. Verizon Coverage

Since MobileX uses Verizon towers to provide service, coverage is about the same between the two carriers.

The only difference is domestic roaming coverage.

What is domestic roaming?

Domestic roaming is where your phone will switch to a partner network for coverage in areas where your primary network does not have service.

For example, Verizon does not have coverage in certain parts of Kentucky. Instead of having a dead zone, Verizon made agreements with Appalachian Wireless and Bluegrass Cellular, which have coverage in the parts of Kentucky that Verizon needed, such that Verizon customers could use the Appalachian Wireless and Bluegrass Cellular networks for service when their phones lost signal to the Verizon network.

MobileX does not have access to these same domestic roaming agreements.

If you travel through the small number of areas in the United States covered by domestic roaming partners, then you will not have coverage on MobileX but you will have coverage on Verizon.

Very few people will ever notice the lack of domestic roaming coverage on MobileX because it is such a small percentage of Verizon’s overall coverage footprint.

Still, it is an important difference to mention.

The rest of the coverage between MobileX and Verizon will be exactly the same.

Both carriers will use Verizon’s LTE, 5G Nationwide, and 5G Ultra Wideband networks for service.

MobileX vs. AT&T Coverage

MobileX coverage is similar to AT&T coverage.

MobileX covers 67.4% of the United States and AT&T covers 78.1%:

The big difference between MobileX coverage and AT&T coverage is with 5G coverage.

MobileX only covers 14.5% of the U.S. with 5G.

AT&T covers a whopping 43.3% of the U.S. with 5G:

MobileX and AT&T have similar data speeds.

From looking at our crowd-sourced data, MobileX and AT&T both had a median download speed of 61.2 Mbps.

Upload speeds were also similar between the two carriers. MobileX had a median upload speed of 11.7 Mbps, and AT&T had a median upload speed of 11.3 Mbps.

Regardless of which carrier you choose, you will get some of the best coverage and good data speeds across the U.S.

Check out our AT&T coverage map to see exactly what AT&T coverage and data speeds look like in your area.

MobileX vs. T-Mobile Coverage

MobileX has more coverage than T-Mobile.

MobileX provides coverage across an impressive 67.4% of the U.S. and T-Mobile offers service across just 46.6% of the U.S.:

That said, MobileX has worse 5G coverage than T-Mobile does.

Only 14.5% of the U.S. gets 5G coverage on MobileX.

T-Mobile, meanwhile, is broadcasting 5G coverage across 36.0% of the U.S.:

Data speeds are also slower on MobileX than on T-Mobile.

While MobileX gets a median download speed of 61.2 Mbps, T-Mobile boasts a median download speed of 152.3 Mbps. That's experience 2.5x faster speeds than MobileX.

Upload performance is relatively similar on the two carriers, with MobileX getting 11.7 Mbps up for its median speed and T-Mobile getting 17.3 Mbps up.

Overall, you are likely to get a bit faster speeds on T-Mobile in major cities. But MobileX still has good data speeds, and more importantly it covers a measurably larger area of the United States.

Use our T-Mobile coverage map to see how T-Mobile coverage and data speeds look in your area.
